Our Commitment
Hutch School is meant to be an oasis, a place where young patients and family members connect with others in similar situations. We have been working for more than 25 years to provide educational assistance to families who are dealing with the diagnosis of a serious illness and who are moving to Seattle on short notice. We realize the health of a family member is a foremost concern, and our hope is to bring some sense of normalcy for school-aged children during difficult times.

We are dedicated to providing a supportive and fun educational environment for children as they explore and learn with other students from around the world.

Our Approach
Hutch School students are all going through an extraordinary time in their lives as they cope with illness, emotional distress and moving. We accommodate the reality of our students’ lives by paying special attention to cleanliness, and offering a nurturing environment and flexible ways to learn. Our students make new friends, stay engaged with school and grow in surprising ways.

Life Lessons
We recognize that learning happens inside and outside the classroom. Our students, for instance, learn valuable lessons about biology and physiology from their experiences with cancer. Our goal is to help students connect with life and the education it offers, while moving ahead academically. Keeping the mind and spirit active is good medicine and supports recovery.
